Welcome to the Incredible Years!
At Oxford Gardens, The Incredible Years includes Nursery and Reception children. This allows for an excellent transition between the different year groups. We aim to give the best possible start to all children by providing a strong foundation for learning, a safe environment and exciting opportunities. We focus on putting the children at the centre of their learning. In close partnership with our families, we aim to build on previous learning, respond to children’s individual needs and provide an environment where the children can become resilient, independent, confident, active and innovative learners.
Through our topics, our staff will promote learning opportunities that will allow the children to gain lifelong skills and prepare them for future successes. We also learn about a range of different cultures and promote diversity throughout each area of the curriculum. We aim to provide teaching and learning experiences, both indoors and outdoors, of the highest quality to help our children continue to make the best progress possible.
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and work towards the Early Learning Goals. The Early Learning Goals (ELGs) are the goals or targets children are expected to achieve at the end of their Reception year. They work towards these goals throughout the Early Years Foundation Stage. Please see the explanation of these learning goals as well as what you can do at home to support your child’s learning in the links at the bottom of this page. There are 17 Early Learning Goals and these are divided up into 7 areas of learning and development:
- Communication and Language
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Literacy
- Maths
- Understanding of the world
- Expressive Art and Design
The classroom is set up with activities covering each of these areas of learning. Each day the classroom is set up for ‘free flow’ when the children can choose from a range of self-access activities and decide whether to do their learning inside or outside. There is an engaging outdoor area to support our children who learn predominantly through sensory and physical experiences. The children also have whole-class carpet sessions every day as well as focus groups so that they benefit from structured teaching sessions too. In The Incredible Years, children learn through playing and exploring, being active and through creative and critical thinking. This is a key consideration when the teachers are planning the different learning activities.
